Goodbye Dog Breath!- Houndstooth Dental

Bo's loving kisses have become something close to torture lately because of his terrible stinkbreath.  It got so bad the past few days that I finally scratched "Schedule Bo's Dentist Appointment" off of my to-do list.  I was a bit nervous to have dental work done at the vet's office with anesthesia because I have heard horror stories.  So I decided to try non-anesthetic dental cleaning first and go from there. I had seen an ad for Houndstooth Dental at an event I went to recently and went online to read some reviews. After a lot of positive feedback, I decided to give it a shot!

Dali (one of the sisters that started the company almost 20 years ago) came right to my apartment and Bo immediately loved her!  She was so great with him and made him feel instantly comfortable.  The cleaning took about 30 minutes and she explained to me what she was doing every step of the process.  She also gave me lots of tips for home cleaning and care.  The visit cost me $130 but that was minimal compared to the estimate I got from my vet's dental services with anesthesia.

All-in-all, I was very impressed with this convenient service!  I will absolutely schedule another appointment with Dali in the future and would recommend her to friends.  Plus, Bo's kisses are no longer so smelly... hooray!

WEHO Pups Rejoice!

West Hollywood has it all: bars, restaurants, shops, entertainment ... you name it. But to add to the fun, it will soon be getting another off-leash dog park for all of the WEHO pups to enjoy!  It was announced that the restoration project for Plummer Park will include a 4000+ square foot fenced off-leash puppy area. Yippee!!

While the project isn't expected to be completed until 2012-13, it is certainly worth looking forward to!

Alcoholic Saturday Afternoon?

What are the odds that there are two events that give me an excuse to drink a cocktail and hang out with my dog on a GOREGEOUS Saturday afternoon? Ok so I am actually working this weekend (bummer) but that doesn’t mean you all can’t go out and drink one for me!

For the fancier folks in the crowd, there is a Learn About Wine dog-friendly charity wine tasting event that supports Found Animals Foundation and Clinico from 1-4pm in Downtown LA. There will be lots of wine for you to taste and lots of doggie treats for your pooch to taste! And if you need to fill your belly with something besides wine, there will be a free cheese bar (woo!) and food trucks if you need something more substantial! There will also be a pet photographer and a silent auction. Registration is $45 online and you will walk away with a doggie bag of giveaways (or $60 at the door but no gift bag)!

For those who are feeling a bit more relaxed (or have only a little bit of money to spend on food and booze), Pink Taco Doggy Day is the place to be from 12-4pm. The event, which benefits the spcaLA, will have the usual vendors, photos, and free dog treats but will also have a special play area for dogs and delicious drink specials on “doggy style” and “dog bowl” margaritas for you! Tacos + margaritas + puppy play time = quite possibly the most perfect Saturday afternoon!

Phydough- Food Truck for Dogs

I wondered when the day would come that the food truck phenomenon would spread to the world of canines. Well I saw an article today announcing Phydough, a gourmet, organic cookie/ice cream sandwich food truck for dogs!

You can follow the truck on Twitter to find out when it will be in your corner of LA. Bo and I will definitely have to try this out!
